Scientists did some thinking on a possible zombie attack. BBC reports
One of the author's name is Professor Robert Smith?. (Yes the ? is part of his name.) He and his fellow authors find that humanity's only hope is to "hit them [the undead] hard and hit them often". |

| A growing list. |
[Apr. 12th, 2009|08:05 pm] |
First does anyone here you a web-based desktop? And if so which one?
Second: During the Gaza military conflict in January, Hamas apologists claimed that the whole thing was Israel's fault for limiting the amount of goods that can cross into and out of Gaza, necessitating Hamas's "resistance. Yet Hamas and other Palestinian factions have consistently attacked the crossings that are open, knowing that this will inevitably lead to further restrictions.
Sp it's worth remembering an attack last April on the Israeli terminal that supplies gas to Gaza. Two Israeli civilians were murdered. Do you think Hamas condemned the attack for threatening Gaza's gas supply and immiserated the civilian population? Not exactly:
Fawzi Barhoum, a Hamas spokesman, praised the attack as heroic and courageous. He said Hamas was not responsible but affirmed his group's support for "resistance."(http://volokh.com/posts/1238564187.shtml)
Third. What the hell is up with Amazon and its decision to remove all GLBTI literature from its search functions? The META writer community is keeping a list of books that have been removed. http://community.livejournal.com/meta_writer/11992.html. I have to say I'm very offended. If I used Amazon I'd stop. But I don't so I'll continue not using it.
Fourth coupons search page will save you some money. |

Doodling is good for you.
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is sending strong signals that President Obama - who as a candidate said states should be allowed to make their own rules on medical marijuana - will end raids on pot dispensaries in California.
This added to the fact that New Jersey recently passed its medical marijuana bill in the senate, hopefully signals a real shift to end the Drug war.
I look forward to Colbert v Steele freestyle rap battle.
Hi-caliber is the republican rapper. I wonder if Colbert will get him to battle in a freestyle rap. |

At 40-41% support, legalizing marijuana is more popular than all of the following: In short, legalizing marijuana is more popular than the Republican Party, most leading Republicans, and virtually the entire Republican platform.

A Hams Medic : "Following the clashes, the Palestinian press reported that Naim was killed and that he was a medic with the Palestinian Red Crescent. The Gaza CLA, however, produced photographs of Naim posing holding a rocket-propelled grenade launcher and a Kalashnikov assault rifle that had been posted on a Hamas Web site."
Not surprisingly, the percentage of civilian (or, more precisely, non-combatant) casualties in Gaza is turning out to be substantially lower than official Palestinian sources have claimed. I say not surprisingly, because anyone who remembers the false propaganda emanating from Jenin in 2002 [when about fifty Palestinians, almost all armed terror/militia group members were killed, but when, for example, PA spokesman Nabil Shaath "accused Israel of carrying out summary executions and removing corpses in refrigerated trucks. He said close to 500 people had been killed." Guardian, April 17, 2002], among other occasions, knows to take "official" Palestinian casualty statistics with a grain of salt.
I find it interesting that people are solidly in favor of the release of Marwan Barghouthi. For some reason people feel he should be released because he only advocates death and destruction for Jews in one particular area, as oppose to through out the country. (For those who don't know Marwan Barghouthi was the founder of the terrorist group Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, was a member of the PLO and one of the leaders of the second intifada. He is immensely popular.) I just don't get why everyone wants him released. |

| Some Survey results |

ESPN.com is doing a poll of sports fans. Granted they have to volunteer but I think that even if we limit it to just fans of espn.com I think that we could extrapolate its results to die-hard sports fans in general.
Here are the interesting results in particular:
30) Would you rather:
57.9% Be given free season tickets to your favorite team 42.1% Be promoted at work
31) Would you rather:
73.2% See your favorite team win a championship 26.8% Have one night of passion with Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt
32) Would you rather:
73.6% Watch Game 2 of the NBA Finals, Stanley Cup or World Series 26.4% Watch the season finale of your favorite TV show
37) Which do you prefer?
68.7% Winning percentage 31.3% Graduation rate
43) Have you ever passed up sex to watch sports?
61.1% No 38.9% Yes
48) Which would you rather have?
56.5% $5,000 43.5% Your favorite team win a championship
I have to say I'm most surprised by the difference between 37 and 43. I'd have expected them to be similar. But then again having sex with a movie star is a fantasy giving up sex with a real person who will get mad at you is difficult. of these few the only question I had to even think about was 48 and I didn't have to think too hard. (I'd take the money.) |

| Do not discriminate against facial Hair! |
[Feb. 2nd, 2009|10:56 am] |
Those of us who have facial hair now have court protection. Companies cannot discriminate against people with facial hair.
United Parcel Service violated a Rastafarian man's religious beliefs by denying him a customer-contact job because his one-inch beard did not comply with company appearance guidelines, a federal court jury in Trenton found on Friday. The panel ordered UPS to pay $10,000 to Roniss Mason, of Jersey City, who had applied for a job as a driver's assistant but, because he refused to shave, was offered instead a lower-paying warehouse job, which he declined. He complained to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which filed the Title VII suit alleging failure to accommodate religious practices. |

It looks like I have earned at least a 4.0 this semester. Working day and night for my trial which starts on tuesday. Its very exciting. I'm writing direct testimony questions for our star witness. (There's five of us, but I'm actually writing.) Its actually kind of fun, being part of team, ordering chinese food, talking strategy, preparing exhibits and talking about when to object. I might actually like being a lawyer after all. Who knew? |

I've become more interested in science recently. Probably because I do not have to deal with labs. I am not a lab person. It has made me seriously think of going into air & space law, which doesn't require a solid hard science background. |

| A Hillarie Belloc poem |
[Jan. 22nd, 2009|12:24 pm] |
B stands for Bear.
When Bears are seen Approaching in the distance,
Make up your mind at once between Retreat and Armed Resistance
A Gentleman remained to fight -- With what result for him?
The Bear, with ill-concealed delight, Devoured him, Limb by Limb.
Another Person turned and ran; He ran extremely hard: The Bear was faster than the Man, And beat him by a yard.
MORAL.
Decisive action in the hour of need Denotes the Hero, but does not succeed. |

Obama is now President Obama, and that is just great.
The Drum Major is possibly the best position in the armed forces.
It was great hearing the Republican women being booed by the crowd and CNN had to turn off most of their microphones.
It was neat watching people people on tv who were watching other people on tv.
The crow started singing SHANANA SHANANA HEY HEY HEY GOODBYE!

To mock Thomas Friedman is an easy sport, unlike shooting fish in a barrel.
But Matt Taibbi is awesome at it and I applaud him for it. And creates one of the greatest graphs ever.

Read the whole article here. It worth it, if only for the other amazing graphs.
